About Sara Mason

Sara Mason is a horse educator who specializes in teaching horses and riders the physical, mental, and emotional skills necessary for a lifetime of excellence in horsemanship. She and her husband, Doug, own and operate Mason Training Stables in Careywood, Idaho, where Sara is Senior Trainer and Instructor.

Sara's family has been in the horse training business for three generations, and Sara has been a professional trainer for over 20 years.

From the start, King Spur Training Stable was designed to be a working and teaching stable. Unlike many stables where the emphasis is on training and marketing show horses, our goals at King Spur are about building lifetime relationships between riders and horses. We lay the foundation for excellence, not just in the show ring, but for any type of riding experience.

Sara's teaching philosophy is holistic. She has developed a cucciculum for educating the rider's mind, heart, and body. This includes "off-horse" classroom instruction as well as "on-horse" lessons and clinics - The "Mason Foundation Method" of horse education.

Sara's students don't just learn to look good on a horse. They actually come to understand how the horse thinks, feels, and experiences the world. They develop a physical fitness plan that enhances their balance, coordination, and concentration. And they interact with other riders and learn from each other.

This philosophy of education and horsemanship is what makes King Spur Stables a fun, enjoyable, and nurturing training environment for all disciplines, including English Hunter-Jumper, Dressage and Western Equitation and Reining.

Sara's dream is to one day create an American version of the great European riding academies - a world-class horse and rider education center, where equine beauty, athleticism, and elegance can be experienced and appreciated by everyone.
